The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Det Europæiske Økonomiske og Sociale Udvalg foreslår, at den nye EU-ramme for skovovervågning skal være bæredygtig, omkostningseffektiv og operationelt gennemførlig. Den bør også være rettidig, sikker, dynamisk, inkluderende og deltagelsesbaseret, så der kan skabes et tæt samarbejde mellem videnskab og praksis sideløbende med bedre planlægning og evidensbaseret politikudformning.
Det er afgørende at sikre komplementaritet og forhindre overlapning af data, der allerede er omfattet af eksisterende lovgivning såsom klima- og luftpolitikker, biodiversitetsbestemmelser og den fælles landbrugspolitik.
Med hensyn til klimaændringer er der behov for både langtidsdata og data om udvikling af landdistrikter, cirkulær økonomi og videnskab. Det er vigtigt at sikre interoperabilitet og samme detaljeringsgrad, teknologi og hyppighed, navnlig når der indsamles supplerende data i alle EU's medlemsstater. Der bør gøres en løbende indsats for at reducere den administrative byrde og undgå overdrevent bureaukrati som f.eks. indsamling og indberetning af de samme data flere gange. Der bør lægges samme vægt på økonomiske, sociale og miljømæssige skovdata.
Betydningen af at respektere private ejendomsrettigheder og dataejerskab, navnlig inden for rammerne af nærhedsprincippet, kan ikke overvurderes. Frem for alt bør offentlighedens interesse have forrang i skovdatainfrastrukturen.
Hver EU-medlemsstat, der drager fordel af skove, bør have en langsigtet skovplan, der supplerer andre skov- og træstrategier og sikrer en perfekt overensstemmelse med målene for bæredygtig udvikling. Under hensyntagen til skovenes multilaterale værdier bør de sociale og økonomiske aspekter indgå i skovplanernes struktur sammen med partnerskabsprincippet og inddragelsen af civilsamfundet i udarbejdelsen og gennemførelsen af langsigtede skovplaner.
Den Stående Skovbrugskomités rolle bør styrkes, og den bør omfatte relevante aktører fra civilsamfundet.
