The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Eiropas Ekonomikas un sociālo lietu komiteja uzskata, ka jaunajam ES meža monitoringa satvaram jābūt ilgtspējīgam, rentablam un praktiski īstenojamam. Tam jābūt arī savlaicīgam, drošam un aizsargātam, dinamiskam, iekļaujošam un vērstam uz līdzdalību, lai līdztekus labākai plānošanai un uz pierādījumiem balstītai politikas veidošanai nodrošinātu ciešu zinātnes un prakses sadarbību.
Ir ļoti svarīgi nodrošināt papildināmību un novērst tādu datu dublēšanos, kuri jau tiek vākti saskaņā ar spēkā esošajiem tiesību aktiem, piemēram, klimata un gaisa politikas, biodaudzveidības regulējuma un kopējās lauksaimniecības politikas ietvaros.
Klimata pārmaiņu jomā līdztekus datiem par lauku attīstību, aprites ekonomiku un zinātnes datiem vajadzīgi ilgtermiņa dati. Ir svarīgi nodrošināt sadarbspēju un vienādu granularitātes, tehnoloģijas un biežuma līmeni, īpaši tad, ja visās ES dalībvalstīs tiek vākti papildinoši dati. Pastāvīgi jārūpējas par administratīvā sloga samazināšanu un pārmērīgas birokrātijas novēršanu, piemēram, vairākkārtēju datu vākšanu un ziņošanu. Vienlīdz liela nozīme jāpiešķir ekonomiskajiem, sociālajiem un vides datiem par mežiem.
Nav iespējams pārvērtēt to, cik svarīgi ir ievērot privātīpašuma tiesības un datu īpašumtiesības, it īpaši saskaņā ar subsidiaritātes principu. Meža datu infrastruktūrā primārām jābūt sabiedrības interesēm.
Katrā ES dalībvalstī, kas gūst labumu no mežiem, vajadzētu būt izstrādātam ilgtermiņa meža plānam, kurš papildinātu citas meža un koksnes stratēģijas un pilnībā atbilstu ilgtspējīgas attīstības mērķiem. Ņemot vērā mežu daudzveidīgās vērtības, meža plānu struktūrā būtu jāiekļauj sociālie un ekonomiskie aspekti, kā arī jānodrošina partnerības princips un pilsoniskās sabiedrības iesaistīšana ilgtermiņa meža plānu izstrādē un īstenošanā.
Būtu jāstiprina Mežsaimniecības pastāvīgās komitejas loma, un tajā būtu jāiesaista attiecīgie pilsoniskās sabiedrības dalībnieki.
