The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

I en initiativudtalelse anmoder EØSU Kommissionen om at beskrive de bestemmelser, der er nødvendige for at udvide EU's bæredygtighedsklassificering til sociale mål. Klassificeringsforordningen giver Kommissionen mandat til at offentliggøre en rapport herom, men den har hidtil ikke gjort det.
"EØSU efterlyser et holistisk EU-klassificeringssystem, som omfatter både miljømæssig og social bæredygtighed. Et socialt klassificeringssystem vil bidrage til at kanalisere investeringer i retning af sociale mål", siger ordfører Judith Vorbach. "Klassificeringssystemet bør fungere som en guldstandard, der afspejler et højere ambitionsniveau end det, der er fastsat i lovgivningen".
EU's klassificering er et klassificeringssystem, der opstiller en liste over miljømæssigt bæredygtige økonomiske aktiviteter med det formål at opskalere bæredygtige investeringer til støtte for den europæiske grønne pagt.
EØSU mener, at et socialt klassificeringssystem vil bidrage til at imødegå falske påstande fra virksomheder, der ønsker at tiltrække socialt ansvarlige investorer, ved at give nøjagtige oplysninger om deres sociale fodaftryk. Et intelligent socialt klassificeringssystem kan i høj grad bidrage til at forhindre såkaldt "social washing" i stil med "grønvaskning".
Medlem af studiegruppen, Kęstutis Kupšys, fremhæver, at den finansielle sektor i høj grad ønsker at tage en debat om social klassificering. "Der er en efterspørgsel efter bæredygtige finansielle produkter på markedet, herunder på området social bæredygtighed", sagde han. "Medmindre vi får en klar klassificering af, hvad der betragtes som "socialt", vil vi mangle dette aspekt inden for bæredygtige investeringer." (tk)
