Conference : 28th Regime / EU's Competitiveness Agenda for Workers
The EESC Workers' Group and ETUC (European Trade Union Confederation) co-organised a conference in the framework of the category meeting "Workers' Voice for more democratic participation", which featured two thematic sessions.
The morning session on the theme "28th Regime – Why are alarm bells ringing?", examined the European Commission's recent proposal for a 28th company law regime (EU Inc.) aimed at supporting startups, a move that raises concerns about potential erosion of workers' rights. To address these concerns, the Workers' Group and ETUC brought together experts from trade unions, employers' organisations, the European Commission and the European Parliament to discuss the proposal's implications and shed light on the perspectives of workers, companies, and EU institutions.
The afternoon session tackled the issue "EU's Competitiveness agenda for workers: European investment and transformation for quality jobs". It covered the Commission's Quality Jobs Roadmap, examining its strengths, weaknesses, and gaps, with insights from trade union experts, national government representatives, economic experts and European Commission and European Parliament representatives. The discussion also addressed the issues of bridging Europe's investment gap, fostering innovation, and the need for a new social contract balancing economic growth, social welfare, and quality jobs.
