The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.

Novi revidirani agenda EU za mesta in teritorialna agenda EU morata obravnavati posledice krize, ki jo je povzročila pandemija COVID-19, kohezijska politika pa bi lahko bila pravo orodje za reševanje evropskega gospodarskega okrevanja. EESO je v dveh mnenjih, ki jih je sprejel na septembrskem plenarnem zasedanju, pregledal teritorialne politike EU in začrtal pot naprej.
V prvem sta se Petr Zahradnik in Roman Haken osredotočila na revizijo Leipziške listine o trajnostnih evropskih mestih in podprla pozive iz nove teritorialne agende 2030 k pravični in zeleni Evropi ter trdnejšo teritorialno razsežnost v vseh politikah in na vseh ravneh upravljanja.
Na lokalni ravni morajo bili ključna vodila za prihodnost povezovanje ter trajnost in odpornost mest in regij. Na plenarnem zasedanju je Petr Zahradnik dejal: „Potencial izvajanja povezanih projektov na področju teritorialnega razvoja in razvoja mest je ogromen, ogromne pa so tudi koristi, povezane s takšnim pristopom, kot so sinergije učinkov, zmanjševanje stroškov in funkcionalne povezave.“
Roman Haken je dodal še: „Glede na posledice podnebnih sprememb, rabe virov in potrebe po zmanjšanju okoljskih tveganj trajnosti in odpornosti mest in regij ne moremo obravnavati ločeno.„ “Zato je treba agendo za mesta čim bolj uskladiti s teritorialno kohezijsko politiko.“
Kohezija je torej vitalnega pomena, zato je tudi v središču mnenja, ki ga je pripravil Gonçalo Lobo Xavier in v katerem EESO meni, da bi bila kohezija lahko idealno orodje za reševanje številnih izzivov, ki jih prinaša pandemija koronavirusa, ter poziva Komisijo, naj ukrepa. „Nujno se moramo hitro odzivati, zato je treba finančna sredstva za pomoč in podporo državam članicam dodeliti v skladu z ustreznimi merili, vendar brez oklevanja,“ je dejal Lobo Xavier. „Evropa bolj kot kdajkoli prej potrebuje raznolik pristop k reševanju istega izziva.“ (mp)
