The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Nesen pieņemtajā atzinumā EESK atbalsta Eiropas Komisijas izstrādāto REPowerEU plānu par ES atteikšanos no Krievijas gāzes un naftas, taču norāda, ka daudzas problēmas, kas pašlaik tiek risinātas steidzamības kārtā, būtu bijis iespējams novērst vai mazināt, jau sen samazinot atkarību no enerģijas importa un pabeidzot enerģijas tirgus izveidi, kā to jau gadiem ilgi ir aicinājusi EESK.
Septembra plenārsesijā pieņemtajā atzinumā, ko izstrādājuši Stefan Back, Thomas Kattnig un Lutz Ribbe, Komiteja uzsvēra, ka pašreizējās krīzes kopējās ekonomiskās un sociālās sekas radīs spriedzi ES demokrātiskajā sistēmai, ja vien netiks rasti atbilstoši risinājumi. Ir jāīsteno tūlītēji pasākumi, lai nodrošinātu energoapgādes drošību par “iespējami pieejamām izmaksām” gan patērētājiem, gan nozarei, ko skārusi pašreizējā cenu krīze, un lai izvairītos no sociāliem nemieriem.
EESK norāda, ka plāns REPowerEU ir solis pareizajā virzienā, taču brīdina, ka šie ārkārtas pasākumi nedrīkst radīt jaunas atkarības un tiem nevajadzētu kaitēt centieniem pēc iespējas ātrāk panākt klimatneitralitāti.
Komisijai, pirms tiek veidotas partnerības ar nedemokrātiskām vai politiski nestabilām valstīm, vajadzētu izstrādāt ģeopolitisku enerģijas importa stratēģiju, ņemot vērā arī enerģētikas un klimata ārkārtas situācijas.
Komiteja uzskata, ka, ņemot vērā steidzamo vajadzību nodrošināt energoapgādi, ir vajadzīga elastība attiecībā uz fosilo un mazemisiju degvielu pagaidu izmantošanu. (mp)
