Union Customs Code (recast)

Key points:

• The Committee welcomes the recasting of the regulation on the Modernised Customs Code as it sees a single customs policy an essential condition to the EU's economic competitiveness at global level. While it agrees with the Commission recast, the Committee emphasises that in order to make single customs a reality, timeframes must be binding and interpretations of rules must be uniform EU-wide. The opinion calls for the establishment of a European customs training institute and appropriate national and EU funding.
