  • From crisis management to everyday practice

    This joint LMO – European Commission conference aimed at 1) looking at the lessons learned from all the recent efforts for the labour market and social integration of refugees; 2) discuss on how these developments can be used to address other challenges across EU societies and labour markets, notably for giving more opportunities to other vulnerable or disadvantaged groups. 

    The event included plenary sessions as well as parallel workshops to allow fruitful discussions between policy makers, experts and civil society representatives.

    The EESC is organising a public hearing on "Air Traffic Management continuity in an Open and Connected Europe". This hearing is part of the Committee's work on opinion TEN/641 Aviation: An Open and Connected Europe. In the presence of the EC's Director-General Henrik Hololei and Filip Cornelis, Director of Aviation Policy, the Committee will bring together key stakeholders from the aviation sector, trade unions, regulators, and passenger associations, to take stock of the current situation in terms of service continuity and to explore ways forward that create added value for all stakeholders and high quality services in Europe's aviation sector. The event will allow stakeholders to come together and formulate concrete ideas that could positively impact the ongoing work on the EESC opinion.

    In the light of the agreement in principle reached in July 2017 between the EU and Japan on an Economic Partnership Agreement, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC)'s Follow-up Committees on International Trade and Japan are taking the opportunity to organise a half-day joint seminar. The seminar aims at examining the significance of the EU-Japan Agreement in the global context, reflecting on the role that civil society may play in the implementation of such agreement, and aims to assess possible challenges and benefits for different stakeholders (the business community, workers, farmers, consumers, etc.).

  • Digital innovation and technology are changing today's society by giving new opportunities for businesses, governments and citizens in a wide range of sectors including industry, health, social media, e-services, data etc. The digital world moves fast. Is the EU single market perfectly adapted to the digital era? It is important for Europeans to reflect on how the EU can take advantage of the digital revolution in order to remain competitive and create more jobs. Estonia, as a leader in ICT and digital services is the perfect location to raise these questions.

  • Towards an innovative, sustainable and competitive maritime industry in 2020

    The European maritime technology industry is an important sector in terms of employment, directly providing more than 500 000 jobs. Shipyards and firms manufacturing marine equipment make a significant contribution to the economic development of the regions where they are located, and across the entire supply chain, which is particularly important to SMEs. Each direct job in a European shipyard means, on average, seven jobs created in the region.

    In the framework of the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaties, the European Economic and Social Committee is pleased to invite you to attend the opening of the exhibition "Ever closer Union".

     

  • Representatives of the two Domestic Advisory Groups (DAG) from the EU and Moldova, established under Chapter 13 on Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, held a joint meeting in Chisinau, Moldova, on 17 October 2017.

  • To mark the 11th EU Anti-Trafficking Day, the Global Action against Trafficking in Persons and the Smuggling of Migrants (GLO.ACT), together with the European Economic and Social Committee, will host a reception to launch its “Hear their voices. Act to protect.” exhibition. The key objectives of the reception and exhibition are to support the European Union in raising awareness on trafficking in human beings, increasing the exchange of information, knowledge and best practices as well as highlighting why victims need to be placed at the centre of any strategy against human trafficking.

  • The 9th meeting of the EU Advisory Group for the EU-Central America Association Agreement took place on 14 October in Brussels.
