EESC Consumer Policy Dialogue
Europe's customs framework is undergoing its most significant reform in decades. Following the introduction of the temporary €3 customs duty on low-value parcels on 1 July 2026, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will organise a Consumer Policy Dialogue on 30 November 2026 to bring together EU institutions, consumer organisations, businesses and customs authorities to assess the initial impacts of the measure and discuss its implications for consumers and businesses in the context of the wider EU Customs Reform. The discussion will focus on the first lessons emerging from the implementation of the €3 customs duty, including its impact on consumer behaviour, cost transparency, product safety, enforcement and fair competition. Participants will also explore the implications of the proposed €2 handling fee on imported parcels and discuss how the experience gained so far can inform the next steps of the wider EU Customs Reform.
The event will take place in room JDE 62 at the EESC and will be open to both onsite and online participants.
