The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

EESO je ob upoštevanju katastrofalnih socialnih in gospodarskih posledic krize zaradi COVID-19 v dveh mnenjih predstavil svoja stališča o sedanji gospodarski krizi in obetih okrevanja v EU.
Evropski ekonomsko-socialni odbor (EESO) meni, da so predlogi Komisije za načrt Next Generation EU dobrodošli in pravočasni. Z vsakršnimi nepotrebnimi zamudami pri odobritvi in izvajanju načrta bi lahko močno ogrozili gospodarsko okrevanje EU.
Člani EESO obenem opozarjajo, da morajo države članice spodbuditi javne naložbe in ustvariti sinergije z zasebnimi naložbami. Odstopna klavzula Pakta za stabilnost in rast in največja možna prožnost pravil o državni pomoči bi se morali uporabljati vsaj, dokler se v polnem razmahu ne bo začelo splošno gospodarsko okrevanje in ne bo brezposelnost znatno upadla.
EU mora preiti na ekonomsko upravljanje, ki je osredotočeno na blaginjo in temelji na solidarnosti, saj bi vrnitev k varčevalnim ukrepom izničila koristi instrumenta Next Generation EU.
Philip von Brockdorff, poročevalec za mnenje Letna strategija za trajnostno rast za leto 2020, je dejal: „Letna strategija za trajnostno rast je priložnost, da prevladujoč gospodarski model postane veliko bolj odporen in trajnosten ter daje enako težo tako gospodarskim kot socialnim ciljem.“
Judith Vorbach, soporočevalka za mnenje Ekonomska politika euroobmočja 2020, je poudarila: „Da bi čim bolj zmanjšali in preprečili hude posledice pandemije COVID-19 in podnebnih sprememb, EESO priporoča ekonomsko upravljanje, ki je osredotočeno na blaginjo, krepitev naložb v trajnostno rast, uveljavljanje evropskega stebra socialnih pravic in reformo davčnih politik.“
Obe mnenji, ki sta bili sprejeti na plenarnem zasedanju oktobra 2020, sta prispevek EESO k prihodnjemu jesenskemu svežnju semestra Evropske komisije in medinstitucionalnim razpravam, ki bodo sledile. Celoten članek lahko preberete tukaj. (na)
