The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

EESO v novem mnenju predlaga, naj EU pripravi pravi večletni strateški akcijski načrt, s katerim bi izkoristili ves potencial kulturne diplomacije.
Kot instrument zunanje politike Evropske unije je kultura del agende zadnjih 17 let, vendar nikoli ni bila resnična prioriteta. Zdaj, ko na celini spet divja vojna, pa mora kultura bolj kot kdaj prej postati eno od osnovnih strateških orodij zunanje politike EU, je v mnenju poudaril EESO.
„Kultura je lahko eden glavnih adutov razvoja znotraj Evrope, pa tudi podobe, ki jo EU kaže svetu,“ je dejal poročevalec za mnenje Luca Jahier.
Posebej je poudaril pomen kulturne dediščine kot politično občutljive in zelo zapletene teme, ki je zato močan in dopolnjujoč diplomatski element pristopa EU k miru, varnosti in trajnostnemu razvoju.
Trden večletni strateški akcijski načrt za kulturno diplomacijo bi moral vključevati varstvo, obnovo in rekonstrukcijo dediščine na območjih, ki so jih prizadele naravne nesreče, krize in vojne. Zajeti bi moral tudi popis obstoječih pobud, na podlagi katerega bi nastala platforma EU za mednarodne kulturne povezave in namenska struktura v okviru Evropske službe za zunanje delovanje, ki bi morala temeljiti na funkciji posebnega odposlanca EU za kulturne povezave.
EESO je v mnenju na lastno pobudo o vlogi kulturne diplomacije, ki ga je sprejel na oktobrskem plenarnem zasedanju, poudaril pomen razsežnosti kulture v sedanjem geopolitičnem kontekstu, kar je povsem v skladu z agendo za trajnostni razvoj do leta 2030. (mt)
