The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Skupna prizadevanja organizacij civilne družbe v preteklem letu so se obrestovala in Konferenca o prihodnosti Evrope je uspela doseči pomembne rezultate v zvezi z vprašanji, ki zadevajo Evropejce. S tem sporočilom je predsednica EESO Christa Schweng na plenarnem zasedanju 15. junija 2022 pozdravila Dubravko Šuica, podpredsednico Evropske komisije za demokracijo in demografijo.
„Na podlagi priporočil državljanov in prispevkov vseh deležnikov je bilo sprejetih 49 predlogov, ki vključujejo številne v prihodnost usmerjene cilje, kot je izrecno opolnomočenje EESO, da bo spodbujal in zagotavljal dejavnosti participativne demokracije,“ je dejala Schweng.
Dodala je, da je izziv zdaj dvojen: najti najboljši možni način za podporo strukturiranemu dialogu z organizacijami civilne družbe in izvajanje nadaljnjih dejavnosti v zvezi s konferenco, pri čemer je treba zagotoviti temeljite, preproste in pregledne povratne informacije v obliki spletne preglednice ter javnega pregleda.
Ga. Šuica je poudarila, da je „Odbor bistveni del demokratičnega ekosistema, saj krepi zaupanje in zmanjšuje vrzel med državami in institucijami. Zdaj je ključnega pomena, da Evropejcem zagotovimo povratne informacije o tem edinstvenem demokratičnem projektu. Komisija bo vedno na strani tistih, ki želijo reformirati EU, da bi bolje delovala. Vendar sprememba Pogodb ne sme biti sama sebi namen. Še veliko je mogoče in bo treba storiti v okviru obstoječih Pogodb.“
Ob napovedi nadaljevalne konference, ki bo jeseni 2022, je dejala, da bo „ta dogodek dal pečat legitimnosti celotnemu procesu, saj je demokracija dragocena in je nikoli ne bi smeli jemati za samoumevno, na kar nas opozarjajo tudi tragični dogodki v Ukrajini. Osredotočiti se moramo na nadaljnji razvoj demokracije, ki jo zdaj pripravljamo na prihodnost.“ (mp)
