Young people have the right to have a say on matters that concern them. The climate emergency the world is facing today has mobilised millions of young people around the world, many of whom are profoundly affected by the threat it poses for their future. At the same time, it is the young people who have repeatedly demonstrated their energy, creativity and motivation to challenge current unsustainable models and push the decision-makers to adopt ambitious policies. Despite that, a wide gap remains between listening to young people, and actually acting upon their calls and demands.

The European Commission (DG EMPL) and the EESC (SOC section) are organising this conference to present and discuss the key findings from the European Employment and Social Outlook (EESO) 2026 – DG EMPL's flagship report.
The 2026 edition of this report, scheduled to come out in October 2026, focuses on job quality, its link to macroeconomic outcomes and related policies.
As part of the preparation of the EESC opinion on an EU Strategy for Islands, the European Economic and Social Committee, in cooperation with INSULEUR, will hold a public hearing in Syros, at the heart of the Cyclades. The hearing aims to bring together local and regional authorities, organised civil society, businesses, academia and citizens to exchange views on both the challenges and the untapped opportunities facing Europe's islands. Beyond discussing issues such as connectivity, demographic change, access to services and climate resilience, the event will highlight the unique assets of islands like Syros, including their strategic location, cultural heritage, blue economy potential, innovation capacity, renewable energy opportunities and sustainable tourism. The insights gathered will contribute directly to the EESC opinion by ensuring that the voices, experiences and aspirations of island communities are reflected in future EU policies and in the implementation of the first European Strategy for Islands which was adopted in June 2026.

The policy debate brings together stakeholders to assess how National and Regional and Partnership Plans will work in practice. In a workshop setting connected to the European Economic and Social Committee, participants from civil society, social partners and institutions will exchange perspectives on transparency, inclusiveness and impact. The discussion aims to highlight gaps, share best practices and strengthen the role of organised civil society in shaping and monitoring the implementation of NRPPs in the EU.
We will discuss on the views of the European Parliament, the progress in the Strategy of the Commission, and learn from the presentation of impactful initiatives by a financial sector association and a trade union. A debate with members and remote participants will follow.
The European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee, in cooperation with the European Youth Forum and Generation Climate Europe, will organise the Youth Policy Dialogue on COP31. The event will take place on Thursday 1 October 2026.
Public debate in the ECO Section on the The Multiannual Financial Framework after 2027 - Assessing progress and outstanding challenges. The event will take stock of developments in the negotiations since the Commission presented their proposals for the next Multiannual Financial Framework and discuss outstanding challenges.
This public hearing will aim to present and discuss the European Commission's Action Plan against Cyberbullying, bringing together key institutional actors, civil society organisations, social partners and experts to exchange views on effective prevention and response measures. The discussion will contribute to the preparation of the EESC Opinion SOC/869.
This public hearing will aim to present and discuss the European Commission’s Strategy on Intergenerational Fariness, a new strategic framework to guarantee that current decisions are made with the future in mind, ensuring a fair balance of benefits and burdens across all generations. The event will gather key institutional actors, civil society organisations, social partners and experts to reflect on the Strategy's priorities and to contribute to the preparation of the EESC Opinion (SOC/868).
