The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Eiropas Ekonomikas un sociālo lietu komiteja (EESK) pašiniciatīvas atzinumā uzsver, ka zaļa ES stratēģija, ar ko paplašināt augu izcelsmes proteīnu un augu eļļu ražošanu, sniedz daudzus ieguvumus. Turklāt EESK un ierosina šādas stratēģijas pamatnostādnes. Šie ieguvumi, piemēram, ir arī mazāka ES atkarība no importa un lauku apvidu attīstības veicināšana.
EESK oktobra plenārsesijā pieņemtajā atzinumā norādīts, ka EESK praktiskie ieteikumi virzībai uz ierosināto stratēģiju atbilst ES mērķim panākt stratēģisku piegādes autonomiju.
Ziņotājs Lutz Ribbe plenārsesijā norādīja: “Eiropas Savienība ir ļoti atkarīga no barības importa, un 75 % augu, kam ir augsts proteīna saturs, tiek ievesti no ārvalstīm. Eiropas Savienībā ir būtiski veicināt proteīnaugu audzēšanu, un tas pozitīvi ietekmēs bioloģisko daudzveidību un vidi kopumā, kā arī palīdzēs lauksaimniekiem samazināt minerālmēslojuma izmantošanu.”
Eiropas Savienībā paplašinot augu izcelsmes proteīnu un augu eļļu ražošanu un palielinot pļavu nozīmi dzīvnieku barošanā, var rasties daudzi ieguvumi, piemēram, plašāka augseka, traktoru degvielas pašpietiekamība un plašāka augu cietvielu pieejamība pēc pārstrādes, jo tās ir izcils proteīna barības avots lauksaimniecības dzīvniekiem.
Kopumā ES stratēģijā būtu jāņem vērā lauku kopienu intereses un jāveicina ilgtspējīga lauku attīstība saskaņā ar ES ilgtermiņa redzējumu.
EESK iesaka Eiropas Komisijai rūpīgi izvērtēt Vācijas federālās valdības izveidoto Lauksaimniecības nākotnes komisiju un apsvērt, vai šāds formāts varētu būt piemērots arī Eiropas proteīna ražošanas stratēģijas attīstībai. (ks)
