Europski gospodarski i socijalni odbor (EGSO) u samoinicijativnom mišljenju naglašava brojne prednosti koje bi imala zelena strategija EU-a za povećanje proizvodnje biljnih bjelančevina i biljnog ulja i predlaže nacrt te strategije. Neke od njih su smanjenje ovisnosti EU-a o uvozu i doprinos razvoju ruralnih područja.
Praktične preporuke EGSO-a za predloženu strategiju u skladu su s EU-ovim ciljem postizanja strateške autonomije opskrbe, izjavio je EGSO u tom mišljenju, koje je odobreno na listopadskom plenarnom zasjedanju.
Izvjestitelj Lutz Ribbe rekao je na plenarnom zasjedanju: „EU uvelike ovisi o uvozu hrane za životinje, pri čemu 75 % biljaka bogatih bjelančevinama potječe iz inozemstva. Promicanje proizvodnje proteinskih usjeva u EU-u ključno je i imat će pozitivan učinak na bioraznolikost i cijeli okoliš te pomoći poljoprivrednicima da smanje upotrebu mineralnih gnojiva.”
Brojne prednosti od intenzivnijeg uzgoja biljnih bjelančevina i ulja u EU-u i veće uloge travnjaka u prehrani životinja tiču se učestalije primjene plodoreda, samodostatnosti u pogledu goriva za traktore i dostupnosti veće količine uljane pogače nakon prerade, koja može poslužiti kao izvrstan izvor bjelančevina za stoku.
Sve u svemu, u okviru strategije EU-a trebalo bi voditi računa o interesima ruralnih zajednica i pridonositi održivom ruralnom razvoju u skladu s dugoročnom vizijom EU-a.
EGSO preporučuje Europskoj komisiji da razmotri bi li format Povjerenstva za budućnost poljoprivrede, koje je osnovala njemačka savezna vlada, bio primjeren i za razvoj europske strategije za bjelančevine. (ks)
