Fis-sessjoni plenarja ta’ Jannar tal-KESE, il-membri tal-KESE ddiskutew ir-rispons tal-UE għall-isfidi ġeopolitiċi ma’ Roberta Metsola, President tal-Parlament Ewropew. Hija qablet mal-President tal-KESE Christa Schweng li l-kompetittività, flimkien ma’ aktar awtonomija strateġika, huma kruċjali fiż-żminijiet diffiċli ta’ bħalissa.
Is-Sinjura Metsola faħħret lill-poplu Ukren għar-reżistenza qalbiena tiegħu għall-aggressjoni Russa, u enfasizzat li l-Unjoni Ewropea ngħaqdet aktar minn qatt qabel biex tipprovdi assistenza finanzjarja, umanitarja u militari lill-Ukrajna. Hija qalet li: “L-Ukrajna qed tiġġieled għad-demokrazija, għal-libertà u għall-ġustizzja. U qed tiġġieled għalina wkoll”.
Fir-rigward tat-30 anniversarju tas-suq uniku, hija enfasizzat l-importanza tal-kompettivività: “Jeħtiġilna nirritornaw għat-tkabbir u nnaqsu d-dipendenzi tagħna, filwaqt li nintensifikaw it-tranżizzjoni doppja ekoloġika u diġitali. L-Ewropa għandha tisfrutta l-punti b’saħħithom tagħha u tiżgura li l-politika kummerċjali attiva tagħna kull jum toffri benefiċċji lill-Ewropej”.
Fil-fehma tal-President tal-KESE Christa Schweng, dawn l-aspetti huma essenzjali għall-prosperità tan-nies u tan-negozji fl-UE: “Dan huwa mument deċiżiv, u huwa biss permezz ta’ sforzi kkoordinati li nistgħu nibnu b’suċċess futur aktar reżiljenti, ġust u sostenibbli li fih ħadd ma jitħalla jibqa’ lura”.
Id-diskussjoni ffukat ukoll fuq ir-rispons tal-UE għall-fatturi ekonomiċi esterni bħall-Att dwar it-Tnaqqis tal-Inflazzjoni tal-Istati Uniti, il-gwerra ta’ aggressjoni tar-Russja kontra l-Ukrajna, u l-volatilità tal-prezzijiet tal-fjuwils fossili, u l-isfidi interni bħan-nuqqas ta’ forza tax-xogħol b’ħiliet li l-Ewropa qed tesperjenza bħalissa.
Id-dibattitu enfasizza li s-soċjetà ċivili għandha rwol kruċjali x’taqdi biex jittejbu l-politiki tal-UE u l-mod kif dawn jiġu implimentati, u li l-Ewropej jixtiequ jkollhom influwenza akbar fl-UE, kif intwera matul il-Konferenza dwar il-Futur tal-Ewropa. (mt)
