The EU speaks your language - Virtual version

An exhibition on multilingualism and the importance of translation

Virtual exhibition

Created in 2018, this in-house exhibition is a tribute to the EU fundamental values of democratic legitimisation and multilingualism and focuses on Regulation 1/1958, which determined the languages to be used by the EU institutions and set out the language arrangements applicable to them.

Regulation 1/1958 has played a key role in European integration: allowing work to be carried out in each of the Member States' languages has increased civil society participation as well as the EU's democratic legitimacy.

This exhibition consists of 25 posters that celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the most visionary agenda for women's rights and empowerment across the world. It highlights struggles for gender equality and women's rights in Europe, the United States of America, Canada, the Caucasus and Central Asia.

The Portuguese artist Ana Carvalho presents the Africa in Lisbon exhibition, depicting the presence and impact of African culture in Lisbon, while the African artist José Pereira, based in Cape Verde, presents the Ubuntu photo exhibition, promoting a way of peaceful co-existence, acceptance of differences and solidarity.

Hand in hand

The EESC is hosting the exhibition Hand in Hand by the Portuguese artist, Maria Reis Rocha.

The exhibition features a series of illustrations and short videos promoting mental health, social participation and transformation, quality education, universal access to healthcare, the fight against poverty and racism, and children's rights.

This series looks at the social dimension of life, which is closely connected to the Portuguese Presidency's priorities of a resilient, green, social, digital and global Europe.

The online exhibition will run from 15 January to 15 February 2021, in connection with the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Refuge: Private worlds in exile

The EESC is hosting an exhibition by the French photographer Bruno Fert entitled "Refuge: Private worlds in exile".

It comprises a series of panels with portraits and testimonies, together with images of interiors in refugee camps and makeshift shelters in Greece and France, including the "jungle" in Calais.

To Be and Not to Be (in times of Corona)

To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December), the EESC presented the short film To Be and Not to Be (in times of Corona).

The short film was produced by Theatre Stap in November 2020 in Turnhout (Belgium) during the strict measures imposed due to the pandemic.

Habitat

Exploring the relationship between humankind and nature through aerial photography.

The EESC will host a photography exhibition entitled Habitat, featuring the work of Tom Hegen, an award-winning German photographer and designer from Munich. Tom Hegen's work focuses on aerial photography projects, showcasing the impact of human presence on earth and frequently highlighting the relationship between man and nature.
The exhibition will be displayed at the EESC from 20 October to 30 November 2020, in connection with the German Presidency of the Council of the EU.

100 years of Social Protection with the International Labour Organization (ILO)

The EESC will host the ILO's centenary anniversary exhibition, "100 years of Social Protection with the International Labour Organization (ILO)", featuring 24 roll-up banners in both English and French.

The exhibition presents the establishment and evolution of social protection systems around the world since 1919, and thus commemorates 100 years since the foundation of the ILO.

The exhibition is being organised in cooperation with the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the EU and with the support of the Lithuanian Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum and the Lithuanian Culture Institute.
