Background

The North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC) is the Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (RFMO) for the North East Atlantic. The area covered by the NEAFC Convention stretches from the southern tip of Greenland, east to the Barents Sea, and south to Portugal. The European Union is a contracting party, along with Denmark in respect of the Faroe Islands and Greenland, Iceland, Norway, the Russian Federation, and, since October 2020, the United Kingdom. The objective of the NEAFC is to perform its functions in the interests of the conservation and optimum utilization of the fishery resources of the Convention area and take into account the best scientific evidence available to it.
