The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

Na plenarnom zasjedanju u srpnju Europski gospodarski i socijalni odbor (EGSO) usvojio je mišljenje o najnovijem godišnjem izvješću Europske komisije o provedbi sporazumâ o slobodnoj trgovini koje se odnosi na 2018. godinu. EGSO ukazuje na ključnu ulogu trgovine u „promicanju održivog gospodarskog oporavka“ i omogućavanju poduzećima „da ponovno izgrade i reorganiziraju svoje narušene lance vrijednosti“. Istovremeno izražava žaljenje što rad civilnog društva na praćenju i dalje „uglavnom nije prisutan“ u izvješću o provedbi.
EGSO u mišljenju poziva institucije EU-a da izvuku važne pouke iz trenutačne situacije. Jedna od njih je i potreba za uspostavom otpornijih, raznolikijih i odgovornijih globalnih lanaca opskrbe te za razvojem snažnijih mehanizama za ostvarenje „programa održivog trgovanja i ulaganja u svim njegovim dimenzijama“. EGSO izražava osobito žaljenje što rad unutarnjih savjetodavnih skupina (DAG-ova) na praćenju utjecaja sporazuma na obveze u pogledu trgovine i održivog razvoja „uglavnom nije prisutan“ u izvješću. EGSO poziva da se DAG-ovi ojačaju „kako bi uspješno izvršavali svoje zadatke nadziranja“ i izražava zabrinutost „s obzirom na to da u poglavljima o TSD-u trenutačno nema obvezujućih alata za provedbu“.
