The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Anul trecut pe vremea asta, serviciile de sănătate din orașul italian Bergamo se scufundau sub povara pandemiei de COVID-19, când ONG-ul Emergency a intervenit și a organizat un spital de campanie, înființat cu scopul de a face față afluxului uriaș de pacienți – își amintește membrul CESE, dl Giuseppe Guerini. După cum afirmă directorul medical, Oliviero Valoti, ajutorul organizației a fost providențial.
Pentru această acțiune de salvare de vieți omenești în timpul crizei, Emergency i s-a decernat Premiul CESE pentru solidaritate civilă. Cillian Lohan, vicepreședintele CESE, explică filozofia acestui premiu unic, iar președinta Emergency, Rossella Miccio, ne relatează ce însemnătate are recunoașterea Europei pentru organizația ei.
