Suradnja EGSO-a s organizacijama civilnog društva u Rusiji počiva na pet vodećih načela za odnose EU-a i Rusije o kojima su se usuglasili ministri vanjskih poslova EU-a i Visoki predstavnik EU-a za vanjske poslove i sigurnosnu politiku. Jedno od tih vodećih načela jest „potpora međuljudskim odnosima”.

Dijalog i razmjena iskustava među predstavnicima civilnog društva iz EU-a i Rusije znatno pridonose nastavku provedbe Strateškog partnerstva između EU-a i Rusije. EGSO primjenjuje dvostrani pristup u svojim odnosima s ruskim civilnim društvom kako bi surađivao sa što većim brojem njegovih predstavnika. S jedne strane održava odnose s Građanskim vijećem Ruske Federacije, svojim službenim ruskim ekvivalentom, te organizira – između ostalog – zajedničke godišnje seminare o temama od interesa za civilno društvo na obje strane. Drugi partner EGSO-a jest Forum civilnog društva EU-a i Rusije, koji okuplja niz drugih organizacija civilnog društva.

Odbor za praćenje EU-a i Rusije unutarnje je tijelo EGSO-a koje djeluje kao upravljačka skupina i koje je zaduženo za razvoj i održavanje odnosa te organizaciju sastanaka i zajedničkih seminara s organizacijama civilnog društva u Rusiji.

On 17-18 March 2016, students from schools in all 28 EU Member States and, for the first time, from the 5 EU candidate countries (Albania, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Turkey) met at the EESC in Brussels for Your Europe, Your Say!. They came to debate an issue that has been one of the most important topics on the European political agenda for some time: migration and integration. The key question for this year’s event was “How can we better integrate migrants and refugees in our societies?”.

The European Economic and Social Committee has been an ardent supporter of the Eastern Partnership from the very outset and the EESC's Employers' Group has continually emphasised the need to strengthen the partnership's economic dimension.
