The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

In order to prepare its opinion on a renewed EU action plan against migrant smuggling (2021-2025) presented by the Commission, the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on 4 February 2022 from 10:00 to 13:00.
This is the 4th Joint Meeting of the Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs) under the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). This year it is organised virtually by the Canadian counterparts.

The meeting of the External Relations section of 1st February is dedicated to Strategic Foresight, which consists in taking any given field of policy activity and identifying different possible scenarios, with their challenges and opportunities: for each scenario, a response is proposed in order to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities.
The webinar took place in the context of the EESC Thematic Study Group on Energy, in cooperation with the EESC INT Section. It concentrated on the main clean energy sources and the impact of the current transition to a carbon-neutral economy on the markets and on society.
The EU and the Japan Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs), established under the Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) chapter of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), attended the 3rd EU-Japan Joint Dialogue with Civil Society, which took place in virtual format on 27 January 2022.

In order to prepare its opinion on the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) proposal by the European Commission, the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on 13 January 2022 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.
The aim of the event is to discuss the proposal and gather input from other EU Institutions, civil society, social partners and health professionals, which will feed into the EESC's opinion.
In the context of the meeting of the Section for Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment (NAT) on 7 January 2022, this public hearing aims to engage stakeholders and civil society actors to discuss the European Commission Communication entitled 'Fit for 55': delivering the EU's 2030 Climate Target on the way to climate neutrality, which will feed into the preparation of the EESC opinion on this topic.
