  • Public hearing

    The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) organised a public hearing on "The rule of law and its impact on economic growth" on Tuesday, 8 September 2020, from 2:30 p.m.

    The event brought together a wide range of civil society organisations to discuss the economic importance of the rule of law and other fundamendal values of the EU, based on the findings and recommendations of an EESC own-initiative opinion.

  • Virtual public hearing

    In an exploratory opinion requested by the German Presidency of the Council, the EESC sets out "diversity management" measures for ensuring that migrants and ethnic minorities are better included in and integrated into the workplace and society.

  • The EESC EU-Japan Follow-up Committee met the morning of 17 July. Items for discussion on the agenda were: the EU-Japan Relations in the post COVID-19 era and  Research and innovation. In addition to this, the Follow-up Committee assessed the current mandate period and reflected on future perspectives.

  • Joint side event by the EESC and the Government of Slovenia at the High Level Political Forum (HLPF)

    The world is facing a climate emergency causing unprecedented economic, social and environmental challenges. Ambitious policy and action are necessary at all levels to accelerate a just transition to a sustainable future, while leaving no one behind.   • Representatives of the European and Georgian Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs), set up under the Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Georgia, held their fifth joint meeting virtually on 9 July 2020.

  • Celebration of the Schuman Declaration at the EESC, with Jean Quatremer, French journalist and Pierre Kroll, Belgian cartoonist.

  • Webinar initiated by the trainees of the EESC with support of SOC & LMO

  • (Hybrid WEBEX)

    During the meeting, the members of the Domestic Advisory Group (DAG) of the EU - composed of representatives of employers' organisations, trade unions and various interest groups -  followed up on the joint meetings with the Japanese counterparts that took place in Tokyo in January this year. They also discussed the work programme of the EU DAG and topics for future cooperation and dialogue.  Additionally, the members of the EU DAG exchanged views with representatives of the European Commission on matters related to the implementation of the trade and sustainable development chapter of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

    The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is organising a remote public hearing on "Decent minimum wages across Europe" on Thursday 25 June 2020 with the participation of Commissioner Schmit.
