The EU-Morocco Joint Advisory Group

The European Union (EU) and Morocco are bound by an association agreement signed in 1996, which entered into force in 2000. In October 2008, Morocco was granted an "Advanced Status" by the EU. This status seeks to deepen political relations, integration into the internal market through regulatory approximation, sectoral cooperation and a human dimension. In March 2013, a proposal for a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) was launched.

In May 2017, the Moroccan Economic, Social and Environmental Council and the EESC established the EU-Morocco Joint Advisory Group to make the voice of civil society heard in the ongoing negotiations. Once the DCFTA or another type of partnership has been concluded, the European Commission will most likely task the EESC to organise the Domestic Advisory Group (DAG) monitoring its implementation. The EU-Morocco Joint Advisory Group lays the foundations for this future DAG.
