  • The way forward for EU economic governance

    Joint ECFIN-EESC Conference "The way forward for EU economic governance" will promote a horizontal discussion cutting across the various themes of the review of the economic governance framework, with debates on debt sustainability and growth, macro-economic imbalances, investment, and the implementation of the rules. It will gather a great line-up of speakers, including Christa Schweng, President of the European Economic and Social Committee, and Paolo Gentiloni, Commissioner for Economy.

    The webinar will take place in the context of the EESC International Trade Follow-up Committee, in cooperation with the EESC INT Section and will explore the topic of 'Supply chains and the case of reshoring'. 

  • Restoring sustainable carbon cycles initiative builds on the European Climate Law committing the European Union to the objective of climate-neutrality by balancing Union-wide greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and removals by 2050 at the latest.

  • In order to prepare its opinion on the Working Conditions of Platform Workers' proposals by the European Commission, the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on 18 February 2022 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.

    Joint meeting

    Representatives of the two Domestic Advisory Groups (DAG) from the EU and Moldova, established under Chapter 13 on Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, held the sixth joint meeting via video conference on 16 February 2022.

     

  • This meeting of the EU DAG for Vietnam focused on the future work of the EU DAG and the papers drafted by the working groups within the 2020-2023 mandate. The EU DAG also followed up on the first joint meeting with the Vietnamese civil society counterparts, which took place in November 2021. It was likewise an opportunity for the EU DAG to receive an update from DG Trade on TSD-related issues and implementation.

  • Extraordinary Meeting of the Workers' Group

    The need for a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable Europe is fundamental for the future. In particular, the pandemic has not only provoked a health crisis, but also pushed our economies and societies to the limit. To discuss a sustainable future for Europe, the Workers' Group is organising this event.

    Public hearing

    On February 11th 2022, the EESC organises an online public hearing in the context of the Commission's Strategic Foresight Report (SFR) and the Committee's own related opinion INT/958. The 2021 report considers 'The EU's capacity and freedom to act' and provides a multidisciplinary perspective on important global trends. The hearing will consist of two panels, each concluded by a discussion among the speakers and attendants. The first of the two panels will discuss the role and the best possible involvement of civil society organisations (CSOs) in participatory foresight while the second panel will give the floor directly to representatives from CSOs to present their own views on the present and next SFR.

    Webstreaming will be available on the day of the event.

  • The conference is a joint European Commission-EESC event to discuss the annual report on the application of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, issued by the Commission in December 2021.

  • The NAT Section is organising an online thematic debate on 9 February 2022 to explore insights for the implementation of the Rural Pact towards a sustainable rural/urban development.
