The EESC's Permanent Group on disability Rights is organising a hybrid public hearing on " Ensuring sexual and reproductive health rights for women with disabilities " on 8 July 2024 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.
During the event, we will discuss with relevant stakeholders existing good practices as well as problems encountered by women with disabilities both in the EU and on a global level.
highlights the need for proper information, education and communication on vaccination, and highlights the role of school healthcare systems and parents in this endeavour;
calls for strong efforts to fight misinformation and disinformation by acquiring science-based evidence and disseminating fact-based information through different channels, including social media;
emphasises the need for gender equality in cancer prevention measures, and calls for HPV vaccinations to be proposed to all girls and boys of a certain age, for communication on the availability of HPV vaccination for boys to be stepped up, and for information on the vaccination rates of both boys and girls in various Member States to be gathered and published.

Its objective is to hear from policy makers, civil society organisations and social partners, about the importance of affordable community -based services and of a human rights approach to mental health care
The outcomes of the hearing will feed into the EESC's opinion "Mental Health Community Services"

Recent economic shocks from the COVID-19 pandemic and the energy crisis in Europe following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have brought energy poverty to the forefront of social and political debate. While EU policies increasingly address energy poverty, gender considerations remain overlooked. This study addresses this gap and aims to increase the understanding of the gender-energy poverty nexus, analysing existing literature and EU and national policies.

On 7 May 2024, the Liberal Professions Category of the EESC proudly presented the 8th edition of the Day of Liberal Professions. Watch the recording of the event.
In this opinion, the EESC is calling on the Commission to launch a comprehensive European Action Plan on Rare Diseases (APRD) with SMART targets that can be achieved by 2030 to enable the diagnosis of rare disease patients within one year. Such plan should be accompanied by the allocation of appropriate budgetary resources and identify common and measurable goals to help define and implement national plans and strategies for RD, encourage Member States and continue cooperation at EU level.
Since 2006, the EESC’s Civil Society Prize shines a light on the often unrecognised contributions from civil society to shaping and upholding a European identity, one based on shared values, and to fostering European integration. Each year, the prize focuses on a different topic linked to the EESC’s political priorities.
On 7 March, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) rewarded five non-profit organisations for their outstanding contribution to fighting mental health disorders, which have risen dramatically in the EU.
