573rd EESC plenary session debate on climate action

EESC plenary debate on COP27

At its plenary session of 26 October 2022, the EESC organised a debate in view of the adoption of its resolution on "Jointly tackling an existential threat: social partners and civil society for implementation of ambitious climate action". The debate was held in the context of the annual meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) which will take place this year in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from 6 to 18 November.

EESC vice president Cillian Lohan welcomed Pegah Moulana, Advocacy Coordinator at Youth and Environment Europe, who thanked the EESC for involving youth in elaborating the resolution, and for including a youth representative in its delegation to COP27. However, Pegah Moulana also emphasised that despite all aspirations, we were still no closer to providing an adequate answer to the climate emergency.
