The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

Il 1º ottobre 2021 il CESE ha annunciato ufficialmente l'inizio della sua partecipazione all'Alleanza europea per le materie prime. Lanciata dalla Commissione europea il 29 settembre 2020, l'Alleanza intende promuovere la resilienza e l'autonomia strategica nell'approvvigionamento di materie prime critiche destinate all'industria e alla società dell'UE. L'Alleanza conta attualmente oltre 500 aderenti provenienti dall'UE e da altri paesi.
Alla luce del lavoro compiuto dal CESE con il parere CCMI-177, l'Alleanza ha richiesto la sua partecipazione ufficiale in veste di osservatore. L'Ufficio di presidenza del CESE ha nominato Andrés Barceló Delgado (ES-I) osservatore del CESE in seno all'Alleanza, tenuto conto dell'opera da questi svolta nell'ambito di numerosi pareri del CESE sul tema delle materie prime. Per il proprio contributo, Barceló Delgado si gioverà del sostegno di Norbert Kluge (DE-II) e Kestutis Kupsys (LT-III), con i quali coordinerà il proprio lavoro.
