Reinventing the Moravian-Silesian Region in search of a socially just transition

On 11 October 2022, the Civil Society Organisations' Group of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will hold a conference under the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on Reinventing the Moravian-Silesian Region in search of a socially just transition.

The event will take place at the Science and Technology Centre of the Lower Area of Vítkovice from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the participation of the following high-level speakers:

  • Anna Hubáčková, Czech Minister for the Environment;
  • Tomáš Macura, Mayor of Ostrava;
  • Vladimír Špidla, Director of Masaryk Democratic Academy, Former Prime Minister of Czech Republic and Former European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities;
  • Lukáš Curylo, Deputy Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region and member of the EESC's Civil Society Organisations' Group

The conference will aim to explore how the Moravian-Silesian Region, one of the three Czech coal regions, is dealing with the transformation towards a low-carbon economy. The event will be an opportunity to present and share best practises and success stories. It will also be an opportunity to discuss the challenges the region is facing in moving towards a socially just transition.

The conference will bring together EESC members, academia, local civil society organisations and representatives of regional and national authorities.

Simultaneous interpretation will be available from and into English, French and Czech.
