  • During the 9th meeting of the Domestic Advisory Group for the EU-Colombia, Peru and Ecuador FTA the members discussed the Rules of Procedure and the work programme of the new mandate. DG TRADE provided the members with the latest information on the FTA.

  • The first European Democracy Festival

    The EESC will participate in the Jubel Festival by hosting a workshop about civil society involvement and empowerment in the EU with EESC Members animating this workshop. The EESC will share a stand with the CoR; therefore joint EESC/CoR activities could be organised.

  • Civil society and municipalities: building sustainability through collaboration

    The second event for the European Day of Sustainable Communities will showcase the critical contribution that community-led initiatives on climate change and sustainability are making to support EU policy goals in these areas.

  • High Level Conference

    During the energy transition towards the low-emission economy, the EU energy system faces a period of profound technological, economic and social change that will affect many of the energy sectors, including the coal industry and hence the coal-mining regions of the EU. However, the currently active coal-mining regions have to prepare for the phasing-out of coal production to be in line with EU energy and climate policy decisions on fossil fuel use or for economic reasons.

  • During the meeting, the members of the Domestic Advisory Group (DAG) of the EU composed of representatives of employers' organisations, trade unions and various interest group, elected their Chair and Vice-Chairs. They discussed the mandate of the EU DAG, working methods, reporting procedures and cooperation with other civil society organisations, as well as exchange views on its rules of procedure.

  • The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in cooperation with the Thessaloniki’s Traders Association and the University of Macedonia has organised a Public Hearing on the Company Law package. The purpose of this hearing was to gather input and feedback from Greek stakeholders on this comprehensive set of measures aiming for fair, enabling, transparent and modern company law rules in Europe.

    The event brought together players from the SMEs scene in Greece, business organisations' and workers' representatives, experts and academics, as well as EESC members to discuss this topical issue.

  • The new Justice, Rights and Values Fund aims at simplifying the existing programmes to support the promotion and strengthening of justice, values and rights in the Europe. The Fund will support the activities of a number of actors such as NGOs, equality bodies, public administrations, judicial networks or universities, but no additional funding will be provided.

    The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is approaching its third year in the march towards realizing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The High-level Political Forum session this year focused on the theme "Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies". The European Economic and Social Committee was delighted to partner with several member states this year to co-host side events for knowledge exchange on important aspects that relate to the five environmental SDGs in focus at HLPF 2018.
