The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Az Európai Gazdasági és Szociális Bizottság saját kezdeményezésű véleményt fogadott el arról, hogy hogyan tudják az eei-k (európai erőforrás- és energiaigényes iparágak) kihasználni az uniós helyreállítási terv előnyeit a dekarbonizációra és a digitalizációra való, társadalmilag elfogadható átállás során. Az EGSZB arra ösztönzi az Európai Bizottságot és a többi uniós intézményt, hogy biztosítsanak egyenlő versenyfeltételeket az egységes piacon belül annak elkerülése érdekében, hogy az egyes tagállamok megközelítésétől függően kiegyenlítetlen előnyökhöz jussanak az iparágak.
A világjárvány súlyosan érintette az európai ipari termelést. Az erőforrás- és energiaigényes iparágakban működő európai vállalatok már azelőtt is bizonytalan helyzetben voltak, hogy az új válság váratlanul elérte volna őket. Ugyanakkor az erőforrás- és energiaigényes iparágakban működő európai vállalatoknak sürgősen alkalmazkodniuk kell az európai szakpolitikai célkitűzésekhez, hogy az európai zöld megállapodás végrehajtása révén kezelni tudják az éghajlatváltozást.
„Az ipari átalakulás csak akkor lesz lehetséges, ha az energetikai átalakulás befejeződik. A karbonsemlegesség céljával összhangban lévő igazságos átmenethez elengedhetetlen a kutatás és az innováció, valamint az európai helyreállítási terv megfelelő végrehajtása. Ehhez kulcsfontosságú lesz, hogy elegendő, megfizethető, alacsony szén-dioxid-kibocsátású energiaforrás álljon rendelkezésre, amely lehetővé teszi az alacsony szén-dioxid-kibocsátású ipari termelést” – fejtette ki az előadó, Andrés Barceló Delgado.
„Alapvető fontosságú az igazságos átmenet biztosítása az erőforrás- és energiaigényes iparágak számára. Az uniós helyreállítási eszköznek és a kapcsolódó nemzeti helyreállítási és rezilienciaépítési terveknek minőségi munkahelyek létrehozásához és fenntartásához kell vezetniük, biztosítaniuk kell a szociális partnerek bevonását, és – az át- és továbbképzések révén – támogatniuk kell a munkaerőpiaci átmeneteket” – tette hozzá Enrico Gibellieri társelőadó.
