Towards a sustainable EU Livestock Strategy
Scope and objectives
On 30 March 2026, the EESC Permanent Group on Sustainable Food Systems (PG) will hold a public debate with the aim to contribute to the European Commission’s upcoming EU Livestock Strategy.
The debate will bring together representatives from FAO, the European institutions, civil society organisations (including youth organisations) and EESC members of the Permanent Group on Sustainable Food Systems, to discuss how a future EU livestock strategy can best support:
- A One Health approach and healthy diets, including antimicrobial resistance reduction and animal welfare,
- Climate, environmental and biodiversity objectives, including emissions reduction and circularity, and
- Generational renewal and rural development, including rural jobs, and the youth perspective.
The programme combines keynote inputs with three thematic panels and an interactive exchange between EESC members of the Permanent Group on Sustainable Food Systems, speakers and representatives of the European Commission after each session.
This event will be webstreamed live on our website. Interpretation will be provided in EN IT ES.
