Il CESE è impegnato e determinato a procedere in direzione della decarbonizzazione del sistema energetico dell'UE e invita i responsabili politici dell'Unione ad affrontare le conseguenze di una dipendenza energetica decennale.
Con queste parole la Presidente del CESE Christa Schweng ha aperto un dibattito sulla transizione energetica e l'autonomia strategica dell'UE, alla sessione plenaria del 26 ottobre 2022, cui ha partecipato il professor Leonardo Meeus dell'Istituto universitario europeo di Firenze.
"Dobbiamo lavorare a una transizione verde a un ritmo che le imprese e le società siano in grado di seguire e con misure di accompagnamento che consentano all'Europa di mantenere la propria competitività e capacità di innovazione a livello mondiale. L'UE ha il potenziale per ridurre la propria dipendenza dalle importazioni di energia, sviluppando le proprie capacità in materia di energie rinnovabili a livello locale, ma occorre garantire adeguati incentivi agli investimenti", ha dichiarato Schweng.
Il professor Meeus ha fatto riferimento alle riforme del mercato dell'energia elettrica dell'UE proposte dalla Commissione europea, sostenendo che il mercato dell'energia elettrica che abbiamo costruito negli ultimi 20 anni può far parte del nostro futuro, soltanto se riusciremo a integrarlo e combinarlo con nuovi strumenti per coinvolgere i consumatori e modernizzare le reti.
Il dibattito si è svolto nel quadro dell'adozione del parere CESE Una visione strategica della transizione energetica per consentire l'autonomia strategica dell'UE elaborato da Thomas Kattnig, Lutz Ribbe e Tomasz Andrzej Wróblewski.
Il parere illustra la visione del CESE sulla transizione energetica e il suo ruolo nel conseguimento dell'autonomia strategica dell'UE, concentrandosi sull'accelerazione della decarbonizzazione, sulla riduzione della dipendenza dalle importazioni di energia, sull'aumento dell'accettazione da parte delle comunità e delle imprese e sul sostegno alle famiglie vulnerabili.
