  • At the UN level, different processes have been launched, which should come together as soon as possible, to identify the post-2015 agenda. On the one hand, there is the Post-2015 Millennium Development Goals. In parallel, a process to elaborate Sustainable Development Goals, as agreed at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio in June 2012.
  • Considering that a future development framework should deal more substantially with the drivers for sustainable and inclusive growth, which include the issues of job creation, the transition to a green economy capable of addressing climate challenges and the involvement of new actors, and notably the private sector, the Commission believes that a need exists for a detailed opinion of the EESC on the involvement of the private sector in a post 2015 framework.
  • Given the EESC specific expertise, the EESC's opinion is particularly sought on the role of the private sector –taking into account its diversity from SMEs to multinational companies- in fostering smart and sustainable economic growth and creating jobs, as well as investing in training, education, research and innovation, key enabling technologies such as information and communication technologies (ICT). Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, Public-Private Partnerships, joint innovation and inclusive business models could also be issues to be investigated. Possible mechanisms, processes allowing the involvement of the "private sector" in a global partnership for development in a post 2015 framework would also be of interest.
