The EU-North Macedonia Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) is a civil society platform established between the EESC and civil society in North Macedonia (social partners and other civil society organisations (CSOs)). It has its legal basis in the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and was set up following a political decision taken at the fourth meeting of the Stabilisation and Association Council held on 24 July 2007. The Civil Society Joint Consultative Committee comprises members from each side.
The JCC allows civil society organisations from both sides to monitor the path of North Macedonia towards the EU, and to adopt recommendations for the attention of the government of the country and the EU institutions. The JCC with North Macedonia held eight meetings before it became inactive in October 2013 due to lack of accession negotiations. The work of the JCC should resume with the start of EU accession negotiations. In the meantime, regular hearings will continue to be organised in the country.
