Hearing - 29 November 2017, 9.30 – 12.30 | Európa Pont, Lövőház u. 35, Budapest, Hungary

The European Economic and Social Committee is organising a hearing as part of its follow-up work related to its opinion on Improving the effectiveness of EU policies for SMEs, adopted in July 2017.
The hearing takes place on 29 November 2017 from 9:30 to 13:00 , in Budapest, Hungary. It is part of a set of follow-up hearings to be carried out in 6 EU Member States.
The main objective of the hearing is to debate the effectiveness and efficiency of the EU policies for SMEs and gather valuable input and feedback from Hungarian stakeholders on the matter with a view to finding ways in which they can be improved. Particular emphasis will be put on the recommendations that have been outlined in the EESC opinion with the aim of implementing them at national level.

Thematic debate on "Taxation of the Digital Economy", with Rita de la Feria, renowned tax expert (listed in the Global Tax 50, 2015 and 2016) and professor of tax law at the University of Leeds, organised during the ECO Section meeting on Friday, 5 May 2017, at the EESC premises in Brussels.

The EESC, in cooperation with the Federation of Traders, Producers and Entrepreneurs of Central-East Macedonia and Thrace and the Thessaloniki’s Traders Association, will be organising a hearing as part of its preparatory work in order to issue a rigorous, qualitative own-initiative opinion on "The potential of family and traditional businesses to boost the development and economic growth in the regions".

On 6 February 2017, the European Economic and Social Committee will be organising a hearing as part of its preparatory work in order to issue its own-initiative opinion on The effectiveness of EU policies for SMEs.

The main objective of the hearing will be to debate the effectiveness and efficiency of the EU policies for SMEs, to find the ways in which they can be improved and to outline the opportunities and challenges for the future.

All the issues will be addressed by high-level speakers from different institutions, and social organisations and stakeholders from across the EU will have the opportunity to exchange their views.

Given that Europe's priority today is to promote sustainable growth and investment within a fair and better integrated market, the corporate tax reforms package will help to provide a fair and efficient taxation of corporate profits. The EESC is currently drawing up three interlinked opinions on key proposals presented and in this framework the Section for Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion (ECO) will organise a public hearing on "The Corporate tax reforms package - with focus on Common (Consolidated) Corporate Tax Base".

The EESC is currently working on an opinion on the proposal on extending EFSI. In the framework of the elaboration of the opinion, the Section for Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion (ECO) organised on 10 November 2016 from 10 a.m. a public hearing on The extension of the duration of the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI 2.0).

The EESC supports the Commission's ambition for the European Union to lead the way in the global fight against money laundering and terrorism, in which all stakeholders should join forces. To feed into the political debate and decision making process and to make sure the needs of civil society are duly taken account of, the EESC is organising a public hearing on "The fight against money laundering, terrorist financing and tax evasion".

The European Economic and Social Committee, the International Confederation of Popular Banks, the European Association of Co-operative Banks, the UNICO Banking Group, and the European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises will organize the conference “Co-operative Banks and innovation in SME Financing” in Brussels on 9 November 2016.

The conference will bring to the forefront the raise of technology players in financial services. The focus will be on the SMEs' financing and on the interaction between these new players and the cooperative and popular banks.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is currently drawing up an own initiative opinion on "Promoting innovative and high growth firms". In order to gain further insights the EESC is organising a public hearing on 7 July 2016 at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, with the objective to contribute to map Europe's challenges and opportunities in this area and to create an environment supportive of creating innovative and high growth firms. The hearing will help formulating recommendations for policy makers on measures and actions needed to address the situation.

The information set out in this catalogue was brought together in the framework of the study "The response of civil society organisations to face the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent restrictive measures adopted in Europe", commissioned by the European Economic and Social Committee at the request of the Diversity Europe Group.
