The Covid-19 pandemic is strongly affecting the Euro-Mediterranean region, creating new challenges and exacerbating pre-existing ones. The pandemic has highlighted fundamental weaknesses in institutions, economies and health systems.

Several sectors are particularly impacted by Covid-19, notably tourism and hospitality, aviation, oil and gas, automotive and consumer products. Several countries in the region have large informal economies with limited social protection, which makes targeted aid by public authorities more difficult.

Civil society organizations play a key role to ensure an inclusive economic and social reconstruction to the benefit of all stakeholders. The EESC supports their participation in political dialogue to reinforce resilience throughout the Euro-Mediterranean region.
