The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.
The Communication of the Commission presents an EU Quality Framework for Anticipation of Change and Restructuring (QFR). It follows on from the Green Paper ‘Restructuring and anticipation of change: what lessons from recent experience’ of 17 January 2012 and the request made by the European Parliament on 15 January 2013 in its Resolution on information and consultation of workers, anticipation and management of restructuring based on Article 225 of the TFEU (known as the Cercas Report).
Le 20 février 2014, la Commission européenne a adopté de nouvelles lignes directrices précisant comment les États membres peuvent soutenir les aéroports et les compagnies aériennes en respectant la réglementation de l'UE en matière d'aides d'État. Elles font partie de la stratégie de modernisation des aides d'État de la Commission, qui vise à stimuler la croissance au sein du marché unique en favorisant des mesures d'aide plus efficaces, tout en faisant porter l'examen auquel procède la Commission sur les cas ayant l'incidence la plus forte sur la concurrence
