Young workers in Lopušná Dolina call for an EU founded on democratic values

This past weekend, the scenic village of Lopušná Dolina in Slovakia became the focal point for an innovative workshop that aimed to shape the future of the European Union through active democratic participation. The event gathered 15 young workers and trade union leaders from various sectors across Slovakia, demonstrating a shared commitment to the EU's democratic values and the upcoming European elections.

Organized with the intent to deepen understanding and engagement among young professionals in the European electoral process, the workshop featured an in-depth analysis of three opinions from the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). These discussions provided participants with insights into the complex mechanisms of EU governance and the significant impact of informed voting in shaping European policies.

A highlight of the workshop was the collaborative effort to craft a compelling address for the EU elections. This message, designed to resonate with young voters, emphasizes the importance of each vote in upholding the fundamental values upon which the European Union was founded. The final version of this address is eagerly anticipated and expected to be released shortly.

The participants unanimously recognized the importance of the upcoming elections, affirming that the EU's foundation on values such as democracy, human rights protection, freedom of speech, rule of law, tolerance, justice, non-discrimination, equality, solidarity, and democratic participation needs constant reinforcement. "These values are not just abstract concepts but are the very pillars that ensure peace and stability across the continent," one participant noted, highlighting the gravity of the electoral process.

As the European Union approaches crucial elections, initiatives like the workshop in Lopušná Dolina are vital in empowering the next generation of leaders and ensuring that the union remains grounded in its democratic values. With young leaders ready to step up and take the reins, the future of the EU looks both promising and enlightened.The second day of the congress will be dedicated to the European elections. Facilitated by Mr Hajnoš, the workshop will also elaborate a questionnaire to determine the expectations of young people.
