The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.
L'objectif de l'avis, demandé par la présidence roumaine, est d'explorer les mesures et les initiatives à prendre aux niveaux européen et national afin de promouvoir la philanthropie organisée et d'éliminer les obstacles sur le marché intérieur qui entravent la réalisation de son plein potentiel, afin de maximiser sa contribution aux valeurs de l'UE telles que la cohésion, la justice sociale et les politiques européennes, ainsi qu'à la compétitivité de l'économie européenne.
L'avis devrait alimenter le programme de la présidence roumaine et les priorités politiques de la nouvelle Commission.
EESC opinion: La philanthropie européenne: un potentiel inexploité (avis exploratoire à la demande de la présidence roumaine)
L'objectif général de la nouvelle édition du programme «L'Europe pour les citoyens» sera de «conforter la mémoire et renforcer la participation civique au niveau de l’Union». L'avis a l'examen, qui soutient cet objectif, rassemble des recommandations et des modifications concrètes qui permettront d'améliorer le programme en faisant qu'il soit encore plus proche des citoyens et adapté à leurs besoins.

The Civil Society Organisations' Group organised a photography exhibition in collaboration with the City of Culture of Galicia in the framework of its conference on EU food sovereignty: the role of agriculture, fisheries and consumers. The subject of the exhibition supported and complemented the Group's and the EESC's work on resilient and sustainable European food systems. The Group invited the Galician artist, Adrián Baúlde, to present parts of the series Mariscadoras.
En ces temps où la guerre a fait son retour sur le continent européen, la culture doit plus que jamais devenir un vecteur stratégique primordial de la politique étrangère de l’Union. Pour en capter tout le potentiel, le CESE préconise la mise en place d’un plan d’action stratégique et pluriannuel en bonne et due forme en matière de diplomatie culturelle.

Le Comité économique et social européen (CESE) a accueilli un débat sur le thème «rEUnaissance – Une vision culturelle pour l’Europe», auquel ont participé Andre Wilkens, directeur de la Fondation européenne de la culture, Pier Luigi Sacco, conseiller spécial de Tibor Navracsics, commissaire chargé de l’éducation, de la culture, de la jeunesse et du sport, Airan Berg, directeur artistique du Festival des régions, et Elke Kaschl Mohni, directrice du Goethe-Institut à Bruxelles.
Participating in the workshop on Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development at the Closing Conference of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 #EuropeForCulture, organised under the outgoing Austrian presidency in December in Vienna, Tom Jones emphasised that the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) had fully supported the designation of the thematic year and the initiatives around it. He also recalled that public investment must be "rural-proofed", to maximise support to rural creative sectors and local groups working to enhance the infrastructure of our rural heritage.
