On 28 November 2022 the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and ECOLISE will hold an event in the context of the annual Communities for Future Week, a week-long series of events at EU, national and regional levels that will explore how best to support ongoing work led by communities on climate change and sustainability in Europe.
As in the previous years, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will actively take part in the annual United Nations Framework on Climate Change – COP27, which this year will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from 6 to 18 November 2022. This year's COP marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
As in previous years, the EESC was an active participant in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP26, which took place in Glasgow, United Kingdom, from 31st October - 12th November 2021. The EESC delegation at COP26 included a youth delegate, Sophia Wiegand, for the first time.
This event aims to raise awareness among policymakers and other stakeholders of the important contribution of community/grassroots initiatives to global goals and to navigating social, environmental and economic changes in support of wider transformation.
Can a rights-based approach to climate action as well as embracing nature-based solutions for adaptation and mitigation shift the focus of climate action? How can we ensure that no one is left behind in the transition? The EESC Sustainable Development Observatory hosted a public debate aimed at providing answers to the above questions.
On 12 February, the Sustainable Development Observatory will hold a debate on the EU Reflection Paper on Sustainable Europe by 2030. It will then look at several national strategies and processes involving civil society actors.
This event will explore civil society's role in the Sustainable Development Strategies. It will also give particular attention to the monitoring of the progress on SDGs, both at the national and EU level by debating the SDG indicators and potential for their improvement.
The 7th European Environmental Evaluators Network Forum (2018 EEEN Forum) will bring together evaluation practitioners, academics, policy-makers, representatives of civil society and other users of environmental evaluations to share views, knowledge and experiences about the impact of evaluating environment and climate policies in recent years.
The purpose of this public hearing was to take stock of the EU climate finance architecture, discuss bottlenecks in climate finance access for local actors and propose solutions on how to unlock more and better climate action by adopting collaborative approaches to climate finance.
In the context of the UN 2030 Agenda, the European Economic and Social Committee will hold a public debate where we will explore how the EESC has worked towards implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in practice – both with civil society, and within the Committee itself.
