  • On the 1st of June, the Council and the European Parliament reached an agreement on a viable text for the proposed Return Regulation, designed to complete the European Asylum and Migration Pact. The European Commission swiftly welcomed the event, as 'Bringing our European house in order', Commissioner Brunner said. The European Parliament approved the agreement on 17th of June. The proposal is deeply concerning for its implications on human rights and fundamental freedoms.

  • The Workers’ Group at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC Workers’ Group) expresses its grave concern regarding recent legislative developments in Slovenia, in particular the proposed intervention legislation and the announced changes to the system for the collection of trade union membership fees.

  • On 21st of April, the EESC Workers’ Group brought together experts from the ETUC, S&D MEPs, the Spanish government and the European Commission to examine the current push for competitiveness, the Commission’s proposals on the 28th Regime, also known as EU Inc. proposal and the Quality Jobs Act.

  • On behalf of the Workers’ Group of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), I express our full solidarity with the Croatian trade union movement and with all workers, pensioners and citizens who will take to the streets of Zagreb on Saturday 18th. 

  • On 25th of March, the EESC Workers’ Group gathered together with a number of guest speakers from academia, trade unions and MEPs from the European Parliament, to discuss the current geopolitical situation, its impact on social and defence expenditure, its spillovers on supply chains and industry, and the consequences for the welfare states and workers’ rights.
