The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Auf der EWSA-Jugendveranstaltung „Your Europe, Your Say!“ (YEYS) 2021 simulieren die Schülerinnen und Schüler eine UN-Klimakonferenz (COP) und beschäftigen sich mit der Frage, wie die Klimakrise bewältigt und das Ziel der Klimaneutralität bis 2050 erreicht werden kann.
Seit 2010 brachte YEYS jährlich über 100 Schülerinnen und Schüler und mehr als 30 Lehrkräfte aus ganz Europa in Brüssel zusammen, um über die brennenden aktuellen Themen zu diskutieren. YEYS 2021 findet am 18./19. März 2021 coronabedingt in Form einer vollständig virtuellen Veranstaltung unter dem Titel „Unser Klima, unsere Zukunft!“ statt.
33 Schulen nehmen an diesem Jugendplanspiel teil – jeweils eine aus den 27 Mitgliedstaaten der EU und den fünf Kandidatenländern (Nordmazedonien, Serbien, Türkei, Montenegro und Albanien) sowie eine aus dem Vereinigten Königreich. Damit macht der EWSA konkret deutlich, dass er der britischen Zivilgesellschaft nach wie vor eng verbunden bleibt.
Auf dieser 12. Ausgabe der YEYS sollen die kreativen Ideen der Schülerinnen und Schüler dazu eingeholt werden, wie die aktuelle Klimakrise bewältigt und das Ziel der Klimaneutralität bis 2050 erreicht werden kann.
Die Ergebnisse werden mit internationalen umweltpolitischen Entscheidungsträgern geteilt und auf Konferenzen in ganz Europa verbreitet, u.a. auf der Jugendveranstaltung „EYE“ des Europäischen Parlaments Ende Mai 2021.
Während die Schülerinnen und Schüler an dem Planspiel teilnehmen, finden für die Lehrkräfte Online-Informationsveranstaltungen in Zusammenarbeit mit den drei größten EU-Institutionen (Europäisches Parlament, Europäische Kommission und Rat der EU) statt. Ziel ist es, ihr Wissen über die Arbeitsweise der EU und über Ressourcen für Jugendliche und Schulen zu erweitern.
Parallel zur YEYS lanciert der EWSA eine Social-Media-Kampagne auf Instagram und Facebook, um junge Menschen für die Problematik des Klimawandels zu sensibilisieren und für eine nachhaltigere Lebensweise zu begeistern. (cl)
