The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

In der Rubrik „Überraschungsgast“ stellen wir herausragende Persönlichkeiten aus Wissenschaft, Journalismus und Kultur vor. In dieser Ausgabe ist der amerikanische Filmregisseur, Produzent und Kameramann Jewgeni Afinejewski unser Gast, der Dokumentarfilme über die Ukraine und Syrien gedreht hat.
Sein Film Winter on fire: Ukraine‘s fight for freedom handelt von den Euromaidan-Protesten in der Ukraine in den Jahren 2013 und 2014 und wurde für einen Oscar und vier Emmys nominiert. 2016 war Afinejewski monatelang in Syrien unterwegs und fing den Krieg in seinem preisgekrönten Dokumentarfilm Cries from Syria umfassend mit seiner Kamera ein. Der Film war Teil der offiziellen Auswahl für das Sundance-Filmfestival 2017. 2022 widmete der Regisseur der Ukraine einen weiteren Film: Freedom on fire: Ukraine's fight for freedom. Dieser Film zeichnet die frühen Phasen der Invasion im Jahr 2022 nach und zeigt die verheerenden Folgen des Krieges für das Leben der ukrainischen Zivilbevölkerung.
