    During the Civil Society Week, the journalists will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the inside work and activities of the Committee, by attending the parallel events, interviewing members and meeting with the EESC Presidency. The seminar is addressed to journalists from all EU Member States in the objective to bring them together and become better acquainted with EESC's work.

  • Luísa Santos, the new Chair, welcomed the EU DAG to its 10th meeting, putting forward some actions and proposals to give more visibility to future meetings and improve cooperation with UK DAG. In the light of this approach, EU DAG members discussed the impact of recent developments in EU-UK relations as well as the priorities for the TCA review.

  • The EESC's Permanent Group on Sustainable Food Systems will discuss "How sustainable food systems can contribute in achieving food security and nutrition, in line with SDG2 on Zero Hunger".

  • In the context of the upcoming European elections in June 2024, the high-level discussion at the NAT section meeting on 26 February will contribute to set the agenda of the new Commission. Building on previous EESC opinions and events on "The sustainable economy we need" and "Beyond GDP measures", the debate will feed into the own-initiative opinion on A Blueprint for a European Green and Social Deal, based on a wellbeing economy.

    "Meet the champions of excellence" is a flagship event of the European Year of Skills, jointly organized by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the European Commission. It will show inspiring skills of young people and highlight the value of vocational education and training as an effective learning and career path.

  • Die Sorgen der Menschen in Europa, insbesondere der wirtschaftlich schwächsten Gruppen, angesichts der Verfügbarkeit, Zugänglichkeit und Nachhaltigkeit einer geeigneten Wohnung werden immer größer. Viele EU-Bürgerinnen und -Bürger und Haushalte haben mit übermäßig hohen Wohnkosten zu kämpfen. Die Wohnkosten machen dabei den größten Anteil am privaten Verbrauch aus und stellen eine übermäßige Belastung dar, was zu Lasten anderer Grundbedürfnisse geht. Der Zugang zu erschwinglichem und geeignetem Wohnraum ist jedoch sowohl eine soziale Notwendigkeit als auch ein soziales Recht und einer der 20 wesentlichen Grundsätze der europäischen Säule sozialer Rechte. Dieses Recht gerät jedoch durch die diversen Krisen, mit denen die EU in den letzten Jahren konfrontiert ist, immer wieder in Bedrängnis.
