The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

The rules of Solvency II, the 2009 EU regulatory framework for insurance firms, have proved their worth but need to be adapted to new circumstances. In an opinion adopted at its plenary session on 23 February, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) welcomed the initiative of the European Commission (EC) to revamp Solvency II. The Committee stresses the considerable interest of civil society in ensuring the stability of the financial sector, and therefore calls for sound capital requirements and risk preparedness in the insurance sector.

Lors de sa session plénière du 24 février dernier, le Comité économique et social européen (CESE) a présenté son avis intitulé «Ajustement à l’objectif 55»: atteindre l’objectif climatique de l’UE à l’horizon 2030 sur la voie de la neutralité climatique. Le CESE a présenté des propositions concrètes pour contribuer à accélérer la transition énergétique afin de permettre à l’UE de réduire ses émissions nettes de gaz à effet de serre d’au moins 55 % d’ici à 2030.
En raison de la transition numérique, le travail via une plateforme se développe rapidement, dessinant les contours d’une nouvelle forme d’emploi et touchant des millions de travailleurs. Lors de l’audition organisée dans le cadre du dossier sur le «Paquet “Conditions de travail” — travailleurs via une plateforme», le CESE a souligné les risques potentiels et la manière dont la directive proposée par la Commission européenne devrait y répondre. Les participants ont accueilli favorablement le train de mesures, tout en soulignant la nécessité d’un cadre juridique commun, compte tenu de la diversité des réactions et des pratiques au sein des États membres en matière de travail via les plateformes.
