On Thursday, 16 January 2025, from 09:30 – 12:15 (CET), the European Economic and Social Committee will host an event organised by Pro(to)topia and the Club of Rome focusing on metrics for sustainable prosperity in the European Union.
La section ECO organise un débat de haut niveau sur le financement de la défense dans l’UE. Ce sujet est de la plus haute importance dans le débat politique actuel, notamment compte tenu du nouveau contexte géopolitique, du nouveau cycle institutionnel et législatif de l’UE qui vient de débuter et des préparatifs du cadre financier pluriannuel post-2027.
Le CESE organise ce débat public afin de discuter de la manière dont les partenaires de la société civile peuvent utiliser une approche axée sur les résultats dans la politique de cohésion pour la prochaine période de programmation. Les principes de la gouvernance à plusieurs niveaux et de la gestion partagée sont-ils contradictoires ou complémentaires à la politique de cohésion axée sur les résultats ?
The Second Macro-Regional Citizen Agora, organised together with European House (EH), a Budapest-based pro-European civil society organisation, is the concluding event of the 2024 Annual Programme of European House Budapest titled „Stronger.Together – The magic of macro-regions 2024”. It builds on the results of four preparatory events organised in Budapest on 29 February – 1 March for the Danube, in Lyon on 2-3 May for the Alpine, in Zagreb on 14 May for the Adriatic-Ionian and in Visby on 29-30 October for the Baltic Sea macro-regions.

Le CESE présente l’exposition photographique « Des rencontres puissantes : imaginer la fin de la précarité énergétique » à l’initiative du Groupe des organisations de la société civile et en coopération avec les Amis de la Terre Europe. Les travaux de la photographe Miriam Strong seront exposés du 4 au 16 décembre 2024 dans les locaux du CESE à Bruxelles.
The EU DAG set up under the EU-UK TCA met for a debrief on the outcomes of the joint meetings that had taken place in September 2024. Also, in the context of the ongoing structured dialogue with the European Commission, an exchange took place on the TCA implementation and on the outlook on its 2026 review.
The EU DAG also took the opportunity to discuss a restructure of its working methods, including further collaboration with the EU DAK and an increase engagement of DAG members.
20 years on, having overcome early growing pains, navigated teenage challenges, and experienced both successes and setbacks, the Liaison Group stands strong as a reliable and trusted partner, offering consistent value and expertise to the EESC.
The 16th meeting of the EU-Ukraine Civil Society Platform (CSP) took place on 10 December 2024. During the meeting, the CSP members exchanged with the EU and Ukrainian authorities on the progress in the seven steps outlined by the European Commission and on the state of play of the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. The Platform also discussed the state of play of Ukraine Facility, as well as the challenges and prospects for the agricultural sector in Ukraine in the context of EU enlargement.
A joint declaration, prepared by both sides, was discussed and adopted.

Cette année, la Journée européenne du consommateur a eu pour titre «Les défis liés à l’eau: examiner le point de vue des consommateurs — faire progresser le pacte bleu pour l’Europe» et s'est déroulée le 9 décembre au CESE. Elle a couvert, d'une part, la protection des consommateurs en ce qui concerne l'accès à l'eau à un prix abordable, y compris les consommateurs vulnérables, en abordant également les aspects de la qualité et de la quantité de l'eau. D'autre part, il a été question d'une consommation économe en eau, en mettant l'accent sur l'évolution des habitudes de consommation afin de rendre la consommation d'eau plus durable, en utilisant des outils et des technologies innovants.
