Solidarity with the Lithuanian education personnel

The Workers' Group of the European Economic and Social Committee supports the legitimate demands of Lithuanian education personnel to increase the funding for education, restore the school voucher to its pre-crisis level (2009), match the salary levels of educators in pre-school and pre-primary education establishments to those working in general education establishments by raising the basic pay weighting, increase severance payment fund for education personnel who have reached their retirement age, reduce the number of children per kindergarten group and the number of pupils per class. The demands of the education personnel have been approved in the Congress of the Lithuanian educators on 28 October 2015.

The EESC Workers' Group regrets that trade unions representing the education personnel and Government representatives have failed to reach an agreement on the essential demands and that the education staff had to recur to extreme measures – strikes.

We invite you to return to the negotiating table and together with the education trade union representatives find an agreement on how to improve the situation of the education personnel in Lithuania. They are responsible for the future generations, future Europe.
