The decline of employment in the European agriculture sector increases the need of EU and non-EU seasonal workers at peaks of planting and harvesting activities. EU citizens’ freedom and right to work across the Union allows the proper functioning of the market economy by providing labour where and when it is needed. Still, after 30 years of the single market, once seasonal workers arrive at their destination, they are subject to fragmented, often localised, employment arrangements and rules.

The study provides an overview of the extent to which a selection of national post-COVID-19 Recovery and Resilience Plans have adopted the principles of wellbeing economy and sustainable development. A key focus of the report is assessing the extent to which representatives of civil society have contributed to the plans and on their envisaged future role in the implementation of the planned reforms and investments.

The European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform is a joint initiative by the European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), launched in March 2017. The two institutions are working closely together to promote the Platform as a space for the exchange of ideas and a growing body of information, and to make the circular economy happen faster to the benefit of all. At the EESC, the Platform is spearheaded by three Members: Anders Ladefoged (Group I: Employers), Maria Nikolopoulou (Group II: Workers) and Cillian Lohan (Group III: Diversity Europe).

The exhibition “Food for Thought” features a series of 23 oil-on-canvas paintings by the artist, Bruce Thurman. This exhibition takes the form of an “illustrated cookbook”, carrying viewers on a journey of exploration through the variety of recipes found across Europe. Its purpose is to showcase Europe’s rich and various food cultures, on the one hand, and to explore the diversity and similarity found in European food culture, on the other.
