The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

No segundo semestre de 2021, a Eslovénia exercerá a Presidência do Conselho da UE pela segunda vez, e novamente num momento crítico para a Europa.
Em 2008, a UE estava a braços com a crise financeira. Atualmente, debate-se com as consequências socioeconómicas da pandemia de COVID-19. Assim, não é surpreendente que a capacidade de resposta e a resistência da UE a crises, em especial às crises sanitárias, estejam entre as principais prioridades da Presidência eslovena, a par de outros desafios estratégicos, como a cibersegurança. Uma grande parte das tarefas relacionadas com a Conferência sobre o Futuro da Europa também deverá ser realizada durante a Presidência eslovena.
O CESE aguarda com expectativa a possibilidade de cooperar estreitamente com a Presidência eslovena, em particular tendo em conta a convergência das prioridades de ambas as partes: a retoma, as transições climática e digital e a defesa do Estado de direito também ocupam um lugar central no trabalho do CESE.
